Jesse Jacksons efforts support US Arabs and Palestinian causes

US Civil Rights Leader Jesse Jackson Dies at 84

Washington, DC - Jesse Jackson, a prominent US civil rights leader, has passed away at the age of 84. Born in South Carolina in 1941, Jackson was dedicated to civil rights from an early age and became a key figure in the movement.

Jackson’s career spanned over four decades, during which he worked tirelessly to promote equality and social justice. In 1984, he appointed Arab American activist James Zogby as one of his deputy campaign managers, marking a significant milestone in his efforts to engage with the Arab American community.

Zogby later founded the Arab American Institute (AAI), an organization that continues to advocate for the rights of Arab Americans and Palestinian supporters. Jackson’s campaign also actively courted Arab Americans and amplified calls for Palestinian self-determination, which was a rare stance at the time.

Jackson’s efforts helped elevate the voices of Arab Americans and Palestinian rights supporters, who have faced decades of racism, demonization, and marginalization. Advocates in these communities praise Jackson for his commitment to social justice and his willingness to challenge the status quo.

In 1988, Jackson launched a second presidential campaign, which included support for Palestinian statehood in the Democratic Party’s platform. Although the push ultimately fell short at the national level, it led to the adoption of similar platforms by 11 state parties.

Jackson’s legacy extends beyond his political career, as he remained close to the Arab community after his presidency. His commitment to social justice and equality continues to inspire advocates today.
