Israeli forces kill Palestinian man in Hebron, raid Nablus and East Jerusalem

A Palestinian man has died from gunshot wounds after being shot by Israeli forces in Hebron on Saturday night. Shaker Falah al-Jaabari, 58, was pronounced dead on Sunday morning at a local hospital.

According to the Israeli military, forces opened fire at a vehicle that accelerated towards soldiers in the Haret al-Sheikh neighborhood. However, an initial review found no evidence that the incident was an intentional attack.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the man’s death and reported that its crew was prevented from reaching him. The Palestine Red Crescent Society also stated that it was unable to reach the victim.

On Sunday, Israeli forces besieged a house in the Old City of Nablus, with undercover units infiltrating neighborhoods before military vehicles stormed the city from multiple directions. Two Palestinians were arrested during the incident.

In another separate incident, Israeli forces raided a Palestinian wedding in occupied East Jerusalem, firing live ammunition and stun grenades at attendees. Several men were arrested, including the groom.

The escalation of violence comes amid record-high levels of Israeli settlement expansion across the occupied West Bank. According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 240 Palestinians were killed in the occupied West Bank in 2025, including 55 children. Over 1,800 settler attacks were recorded during this period, with an average of five incidents per day.

The violence coincides with a landmark UN human rights report that labels Israeli policies as resembling “apartheid”. The report was released on Wednesday and calls for Israel to dismantle all settlements.

In related news, the Israeli government has cleared the final hurdle to begin constructing the E1 settlement project near Jerusalem. A government tender was published on Tuesday seeking developers for 3,401 housing units on land that critics say would effectively bisect the West Bank.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has stated that “every settlement, every neighborhood, every housing unit is another nail in the coffin of this idea”. The construction of the E1 project could begin within weeks, according to an anti-settlement group.
