Israeli Attacks Persist in Gaza Despite Ongoing Ceasefire Efforts

A drone strike in Gaza killed one person and injured 15 others near Khan Younis, according to reports from the Wafa news agency. The incident occurred on Friday morning in the southern part of the city.

Later that day, another Israeli attack near Gaza City resulted in injuries to a child, as reported by Wafa. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud provided an update from Gaza City, stating that ongoing attacks have created a “dark reality” in the region.

On Thursday, at least 11 people were killed, including five members of a family targeted in residential apartments, according to Gaza’s Civil Defence. Israel’s military reported that one person was targeted and killed in northern Gaza on Thursday, allegedly planning imminent attacks against Israeli forces.

Despite a ceasefire technically in effect since October, Israel’s military has continued to carry out attacks in Gaza. According to the Health Ministry, at least 947 people have been killed and 2,935 injured since the ceasefire began.

Hamas officials are set to meet with Egyptian officials and mediators this weekend to discuss the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. The group plans to focus on halting repeated Israeli attacks and establishing mechanisms for entering the second phase of the agreement.

In a statement, Husam Badran, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stated that the group would not surrender its weapons at present but would commit to a future Palestinian police force operating under a technocratic committee.
