Four Iranian Detainees Arrested Over Alleged Disruption of Political Order
Iranian authorities have arrested four individuals, including three prominent reformist politicians, on charges of attempting to disrupt the country’s political and social order. The detainees were taken into custody on Sunday, according to reports.
The individuals arrested include Azar Mansouri, head of Iran’s Reform Front; Mohsen Aminzadeh, a former diplomat; Ebhrahim Asgharzadeh, a former parliamentarian; and a fourth person whose identity has not been disclosed. The Iranian judiciary accused the group of organizing and leading extensive activities aimed at disrupting the political and social situation in the country.
The arrests come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and its neighbors, particularly Israel and the United States. According to reports, the individuals had allegedly worked “for the benefit” of these countries during the antigovernment protests that took place in January.
Iran’s Reform Front confirmed the arrests in a statement on X, stating that Mansouri was arrested from her home under a judicial order by the intelligence forces of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. The IRGC has also issued summons to other senior members, including its deputy chairman and secretary.
The arrests have sparked concerns over the treatment of protesters in Iran, with thousands killed or injured during the unrest. Human rights organizations have reported varying numbers of deaths, with some estimates as high as 6,854.
Iran’s government has rejected claims that state forces were responsible for the killings, citing foreign interference from Israel and the US. The country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned of a “regional war” if Iran is attacked.
The situation remains tense, with ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Iran and its neighbors. A round of negotiations is scheduled for next week, following indirect talks in Oman last Friday.
