Five people, including three minors and two adults, have been arrested in connection with an attempted attack on Bank of America’s Paris headquarters. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) confirmed that the suspects are being held in custody as part of a broader investigation into suspected terrorist activities.
According to authorities, one suspect was found with a homemade explosive device outside the bank near the Champs-Elysees in the 8th arrondissement. The individual claimed to be from Senegal and stated he had been recruited through social media to carry out the attack for €600 ($688). A second person was seen taking photos and videos at the scene, but fled when police arrived.
The investigation has revealed similarities with other recent attempted attacks in Europe, which a pro-Iran group claims responsibility for. The Interior Minister, Laurent Nunez, stated that intelligence services of Iran often use proxies to carry out targeted actions against US interests or Iranian opposition figures.
As part of the probe, authorities are investigating charges related to participation in a terrorist criminal association and attempted damage by fire or other dangerous means. The PNAT is also examining a suspected link between the Paris attack and the ongoing conflict in Iran due to the similarities with previous incidents in Europe.
