FIFA Resale Policy Implemented for Toronto World Cup Tickets

FIFA Updates World Cup Ticket Resale Policy to Comply with Ontario Government Regulations

In a move to comply with the Ontario government’s recent ban on reselling event tickets above face value, FIFA has updated its policy for selling World Cup tickets on its official resale and exchange marketplace. The new terms, implemented on Wednesday, apply specifically to ticket sales for matches at Toronto Stadium.

According to the updated policy, tickets for matches at Toronto Stadium can no longer be listed for resale prices higher than their original amount paid to FIFA Ticketing. This change is in line with Ontario’s “Putting Fans First Act,” which prohibits making a ticket available for sale on the secondary market or facilitating its sale for an amount exceeding the ticket’s original price.

In contrast, tickets for matches at other 15 venues can still be listed above face value on the official resale and exchange marketplace. FIFA maintains that this platform is designed to protect fans and is subject to federal and local regulations.

The updated policy comes after FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended World Cup ticket prices earlier in the week. The organization has faced criticism over its pricing structure, with some fan organizations labeling it “extortionate” and a “monumental betrayal.” As of April 20, more than five million tickets had been sold for the June 11-July 19 tournament, cohosted by Canada, the US, and Mexico.
