England to Face Croatia in FIFA World Cup Opener
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to kick off with England’s Group L match against Croatia at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 3pm local time (20:00 GMT).
England, led by captain Harry Kane, are considered one of the top contenders for the title, having finished their qualifying campaign with a 100% record. Kane has expressed his team’s eagerness to start well and prove their capabilities in the tournament.
Croatia, meanwhile, have established themselves as a consistent performer at international tournaments, finishing as World Cup runners-up in 2018 and earning third place at the last edition in 2022. Their captain, Luka Modric, is set to make his fifth appearance in the World Cup, although it may be his final one.
The match against Croatia will provide England with an opportunity to test their skills against a familiar foe. The teams have a history of competition, and this encounter is expected to be a challenging one for England.
According to coach Thomas Tuchel, his team has a right to dream but does not want to be delusional about their chances. Croatia’s head coach Zlatko Dalic has warned his team to be wary of Kane, who netted 61 goals in all competitions last season.
The match will take place at 3pm local time on Wednesday, and fans can follow the action live on Al Jazeera Sport from 17:00 GMT. The tournament is expected to feature 13 different kickoff times, with England’s first hurdle being a challenging one against Croatia.
