Colombian President Petro vows to protect country from US presidential threats

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has made a statement regarding US threats against his government, saying he would take up arms if necessary to protect his country. In a social media post on Monday, Petro stated that any violent intervention by the United States in Colombia would provoke a response.

Petro’s comments come after US President Donald Trump issued a series of statements criticizing him and his government. Trump has threatened military strikes against Colombia, citing efforts to combat drug trafficking. The US president also made comments about Petro’s alleged involvement in facilitating drug trafficking, which Petro denies.

The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced Trump’s comments as “an undue interference in the internal affairs of the country, against the norms of international law.” Petro has previously spoken out against Trump’s policies and has accused him of making threats against his government.

In a statement on Sunday, Trump said that Colombia is “very sick” and that its leader is involved in cocaine production. He also stated that he would support a military operation against Petro’s government if it were to occur. Petro has asked his people to defend him from any illegitimate violent act against him.

The situation between the two leaders remains tense, with both sides trading insults and accusations.
