Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has won the Monte Carlo Masters title, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a 7-6(5) 6-3 final match. This victory marks Sinner’s first Masters title on clay and allows him to reclaim the number one spot in the ATP rankings.
Sinner’s win follows his previous triumphs at Paris, Indian Wells, and Miami, as well as his eighth overall Masters title. In an on-court interview, Sinner stated that he and Alcaraz played at a high level, despite the windy conditions. He also expressed his happiness with winning the title, particularly since it was on clay.
The two players had previously met in the ATP Finals, where Sinner emerged victorious. The match between Sinner and Alcaraz was marked by early breaks and struggles to break serve due to the wind. However, Sinner held his nerve to force a tiebreak, which he won with his first serve. In the second set, Alcaraz took an early lead but Sinner reeled off four consecutive games to turn the match around.
Alcaraz later acknowledged that Sinner performed better when it mattered most, stating that he had opportunities in the match that he did not take. The Spanish player congratulated Sinner on his achievement and expressed admiration for his performance.
