Carlos Alcaraz breaks slam record with win over Alexander Zverev

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has reached the finals of all four Grand Slam events, becoming the youngest man in the Open era to achieve this feat at the age of 22. He will now aim to become the youngest player to win a career Grand Slam.

Alcaraz overcame cramps and an injury to defeat Alexander Zverev in a five-set match that lasted 5 hours and 27 minutes on Friday. The match was played on hard courts, with Alcaraz winning 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-7 (4), 7-5.

In the third set, Alcaraz appeared to be struggling with an upper right leg problem and took a medical timeout. He was given treatment for what may have been cramp or another injury, but continued to play despite limited mobility. Zverev won four straight points in the tiebreaker of the fourth set, taking control of the match.

The match went into a fifth set, with Alcaraz eventually breaking Zverev’s serve at 5-4 and converting his first match point when serving for the win. He will now face either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic in the next round, both of whom are seeking Grand Slam titles.

Alcaraz has been in strong form this tournament, having evenly split his last eight majors with Sinner. The top-ranked player was leading by two sets before taking a medical timeout and eventually overcoming Zverev’s resistance to win the match.
