Brazil’s Laura Cardoso Achieves Record Nine-Wicket Haul in T20 Women’s International Match
In a recent match at the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 International Tournament in Botswana, Brazil secured a 189-run victory over Lesotho. The Brazilians posted a total of 202-8, with Monnike Machado contributing 69 runs off 41 deliveries as the wicketkeeper.
Lesotho’s innings was marked by a series of impressive performances from Brazilian bowler Laura Cardoso. She claimed a hat-trick in her first over and followed it up with five consecutive dismissals in her second over, setting a new record for most wickets taken in consecutive deliveries. Cardoso ultimately took nine wickets in the match, surpassing the previous record held by Indonesia’s Rohmalia Rohmalia.
Cardoso’s impressive performance has earned her the top spot in the Women’s T20 best bowling rankings, displacing Rohmalia who had previously claimed seven wickets in a 2024 match against Mongolia. Only three other women have achieved this feat in a T20 international.
The match was notable for its significant winning margin, with Brazil securing a 189-run victory over Lesotho. The Brazilians’ overall win does not compare to Argentina’s record-breaking performance in 2023, where they beat Chile by 364 runs.
Brazil continues to lead the six-team tournament with five consecutive wins and will face Mozambique on Friday.
