Attack on military convoy in Yemen results in five fatalities

Convoy Targeted in Yemen Bombing Incident

A bombing incident occurred on Wednesday targeting a convoy carrying Hamdi Shukri, a commander of the Giants Brigades, an alliance of forces supporting Yemen’s government backed by Saudi Arabia. According to the Presidential Leadership Council, five people were killed and three others wounded in the attack.

The council stated that the bombing was a “desperate attempt” aimed at undermining efforts to stabilize the security situation in Yemen. Authorities have vowed to take “practical and decisive measures” to pursue those responsible for the attack and dismantle related support networks.

A car bomb exploded on the side of the road in the Ja’awla area, where Shukri’s convoy was passing by. Despite sustaining shrapnel wounds in his leg, Shukri survived the incident. The United States embassy in Yemen condemned the attack as “unprovoked” and called for an investigation.

The bombing has occurred amid ongoing tensions between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over their involvement in Yemen’s civil war. The conflict began in 2014 when Houthi rebels ousted the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi from Sanaa. Since then, Yemen has been a source of tension between regional powers.

The Presidential Leadership Council has called on all national forces and political components to unite against terrorism and chaos. The council stated that “political differences do not justify silence or hesitation when the state itself is being targeted.”
